Congratulations, Town Manager of the Year!
Date Posted: Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014
Town of Elsmere’s John Giles was named “Town Manager of the Year” at the September Delaware League of Local Governments meeting.
Mayor and Council of Elsmere nominated Giles for his tireless devotion to the Town of Elsmere since 1978. Giles began his career in Elsmere as a police officer, working his way up to Police Chief in 1994. In March of 1997, when there was a sudden departure of the Town Manager, Giles stepped in to help, even while continuing as Police Chief.
In 2002, he was hired as Town Manager after his retirement from the police department. Since that time, the improvements to the Town are obvious, say the Mayor and Council. “From the meticulously landscaped median strips on Kirkwood Highway, to reliable community services such as our popular Spring Clean-up Day, Elsmere’s Independence Day Celebration, the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, and Movies in the Parks, John has been a central force in turning the dreams of Council into reality.”
For all of these reasons and more, the DLLG is proud to name John Giles Town Manager of the Year for 2014.
